Here is the hard truth that not many PT’s will tell you.
It’s not going to take you 12 weeks, 6 months or a year to change. It is going to take longer than that and it is going to be hard work along the way.
The kind of hard work where you will choose to say no to alcohol when you are out to dinner with friends.
The kind of hard work where you will offend your Grandma by saying no to seconds at dinner.
The kind of hard work where you will have to get out of bed at some ungodly hour to fit the training in.
The kind of hard work when you make yourself a priority over your family.
You will get sick as your body detoxifies and rebels against eating more healthy foods, while it craves the sugar and caffeine you have been living on.
The kind of hard work in the gym that you don’t like, because it is what you need. Not just because you saw an exercise that looks fun on Instagram.
You will want to quit. You will give up on yourself. Others around you will give up on you. And that’s when you need to dig deeper and do it on your own.
Because as much as you think you need to motivation from me, you don’t. It has to come from inside you for it to work.
I am going to tell you over and over again to lift your chest and lengthen your spine. I am going to remind you so often to stand strong and use all of your muscles that you’ll want to throw the weights at me.
I am going to use the dowel rod every time you do push ups, until your body remembers what neutral spine is.
I am going to ask you to do the infant development work on the floor, because that’s what your body needs before I can load it with weights.
And I will keep asking you crawl until your body can do it, so that both sides of your brain are talking to each other.
I can provide the inspiration but I can’t give you motivation.
You are the one inside your head. It’s your work to do, not mine.
I can show you the way, I can give you the tools but you are the one who needs to do the work.
You have to want to do the work.
The work is where the growing and changing is done. It’s not the end the result that changes you, but the things that happen along the way.
And anyone who is promising you anything different is either lying or just wants your money.
See you in the gym
